La série photographique Outre-Mer s’inspire de l’iconographie coloniale véhiculée à travers les représentations et mises en scènes photographiques du corps des femmes indigènes, dénudé, dévoilé, reproduit sur des cartes postales, destinées a la métropole.
La carte postale sur lesquelles sont représentées les femmes africaines, peuvent être analysées comme un échange métaphorique et ambigu de femmes, exhibées, sensuelles, sauvages et regardées avec avidité par les occidentaux. Les corps représentés sont des corps spectacle, croupe et seins dressés d’une femme au sexe soumis.
Dans les photographies de la série Outre-Mer, les modèles reprennent les poses décalant le propos des codes ethniques et symboliques, renversant ou inversant les conventions sociétales et raciales.
The series of photos Overseas is inspired by the colonial iconography of postcards destined for metropolitan France that took the form of iconic representations and staged exhibits of the bodies of indigenous women, unclothed and unveiled.
The postcards on which these African women are represented may be analysed as an ambiguous metaphor for the cultural exchange of women, exhibited, sensual, primordial and objects of desire for westerners. The bodies are spectacles, with their sexual organs and breasts suggesting submission.
In the series of photos Overseas, models replicate the poses taken by these women, shifting the nature of the ethnic and symbolic content, reversing social and racial conventions.
